Top left radical is 'rice', bottom radical is 'woman', and right-hand radical originally meant 'stick in hand' (usually indicating striking), but here apparently means 'hand holding counting sticks'. The two left-hand radicals are a corruption of the original (now rare) NGU character which originally meant 'shamaness'. The original character apparently indicated a shamaness holding a stick and counting while chanting. Henshall suggests remembering this kanji by: 'Woman counts number of rice grains by hand'.
