A little while ago the local newspaper reviewed the story, and filled in some details. At that time the murderers had not yet been caught. I don't know whether they've been caught yet.
The victim was 67 years old at the time of her death. The newspaper interviewed her children, and gave a number of homey details of her life. She met her husband one afternoon, 'just walking across a township street'. They were married 37 years. They had eight children. 22 grandchildren. 1 great-grandchild. She was much loved by her family. Her children are trying to reconstruct her recipes...
Most of the kids turned out okay. One did not. He became a crack dealer. He was caught, tried, and convicted. He was scheduled to begin serving a two-year state sentence in two days. In the meantime, he was living with his mom. Apparently there was a rumor on the street that he still had a large amount of drugs or money at the house. That was the motivation for the home invasion. The drug dealer wasn't at home at the time. His nephew, a grandson of the victim, was at home, and was also duct-taped, but survived.
It's doubtful the invaders intended to actually kill anyone. It was a collateral murder.
The family is offering $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of their mother's killer.
