meaning: rin, tiny amount

厘毛 == rinmou == (noun) farthing, trifle
一分一厘 == ichibuichirin == (adverb, noun) a bit

Inner radical is 'village' (里), which acts phonetically to express 'separate'. This character originally referred to the act of pounding wheat to separate it from the chaff. It came to be used for the 'rin' (a small coin'), a measurement of about 0.3 mm, and any very small amount. Henshall suggests taking the left/outer radical as 'cliff', and as a mnemonic: 'Tiny village below cliff valued at a mere rin.'
