  • Mood:

hana(reru), hana(su)

meaning: separate, leave

離婚訴訟 == rikonsoshou == (noun) divorce suit, divorce proceedings
離反 == rihan == (noun) estrangement, alienation, disaffection

Right radical is a radical form of 'bird'. Left radical is a character found only in Chinese, meaning 'bright/glossy/oppose'. Here it is used phonetically to express a type of brightly colored bird, a type of oriole. It can still mean 'oriole' in Chinese; its Japanese meanings may be the result of borrowing. Henshall suggests taking the top element in the left radical as a 'full box' and its 'lid', the bottom element in the left radical as an 'odd' version of 'insect' (虫), and as a mnemonic: 'Separate bird from lidded box full of odd insects.'
