I am delighted to announce that my short story, "Fourteen Experiments in Postal Delivery," originally published in Strange Horizons, has been selected for The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror 2007: 20th Annual Collection, edited by Kelly Link, Gavin Grant, and Ellen Datlow.

Yes, I know, it's a late hit. Most of the ToC has already been announced. It seemed they had trouble reaching me because I changed my email address. Eep! Special thanks to Jed Hartman for steering the publisher in my direction.

Jed reports that he knows of at least one author whose story was picked for a YB antho, who could not be located. The story was not included.

The lesson, obviously, is be careful if you feel you need to change your email addy, and let EVERYONE know.

FU

omomu(ku)

meaning: proceed, go

赴任 == funin == (noun which can take する to be used as a verb) [proceeding to] new appointment
赴任地 == funinchi == (noun) place of [new] post, [new] place of appointment

Left/outer radical is 'run' (走). Right radical is 'divination' (originally a pictograph of a crack in a heated turtle shell), which here acts phonetically to express 'announce'. In Japanese this character has become associated with going to a new posting or assignment. Henshall suggests as a mnemonic: 'Divination prompts one to proceed at run.'
