For god's sake, media, stop it with the Dow almost-a-record-not-quite-wait-we're-almost-there-oh-shit-no-we-aren't stuff. It doesn't matter what number the Dow hits or not. Eventually it'll break its own record close. Today. Tomorrow. Monday. Or maybe not this week, this month, or even this year.

It doesn't matter, so shut up about it, media. What matters is that the Dow, and the entire market, will go up over time. If you invest the same amount every paycheck, in a broad-based mutual fund, you will make money.

Right now, we happen to be in a flat or slightly inverted yield curve, so even if the damn Dow hits a damned record, it's damned unlikely to get much higher, and may even go down, so how do you like them apples? We're likely to be in for a few months to a year or more of lousy market performance. But eventually the Dow will go up.

Or I could be entirely wrong, and the market may ignore the damned yield curve and zoom skyward. But either way, it doesn't matter worth a damn whether the Dow hits a new high right now.

Have you ever noticed that there's always news? Whether or not anything happens, the newspapers and news shows always have stuff to talk about. This is an example. It's fake news. I suppose the message is that there isn't anything more important going on. Which, come to think of it, probably is good news.

CHUU

meaning: stop, stay

駐車 == chuusha == (noun) parking
駐日 == chuunichi == (noun) resident in Japan

Left radical is 'horse' (馬). Right radical is 'master' (主), which acts phonetically to express 'stop/stay'. This character originally represented a horse stopping; now it means 'stop' more generally. Henshall suggests as a mnemonic: 'Master's horse stops.'
