  • Mood:

haji, ha(jiru), ha(zukashii)

meaning: shame, be ashamed

無恥 == muchi == (noun, adjective that takes な) shameless
恥辱 == chijoku == (noun) disgrace, shame insult

Right radical is 'heart/feelings' (心). Right radical is 'ear', (耳), which here is used phonetically to express 'shrink'. A 'shrinking heart' is a heart which is ashamed. Henshall suggests as a mnemonic: 'Feel ashamed to have a heart no bigger than an ear.'
