Grace in print

Books received:

The Silver Road, by Grace Dugan. Grace! Congrats, you're in print!

Grace is a Clarion-mate from 2004, and one of the founders of Clarion South. The Silver Road is her first novel. Haven't started it yet, but I read a bunch of Grace's stuff at Clarion, and she writes well. I'm looking forward to this.

Handsomely printed book, too. Penguin, natch.

The cover:

meaning: search

捜回る== sagashimawaru == (verb) to hunt around, to search about for
捜査 ==  sousa == (noun that can take する to act as a verb) search (especially in a criminal investigation)

Left radical is one of the many radical forms of 'hand'. The right radical was originally a pictograph of a hand holding a torch in a building. Its bottom element is still recognizably another version of the 'hand' radical. This character originally meant 'to search by torchlight'. Henshall suggests taking the top portion of the right radical as 'field' (田) and an upright 'stick', and as a mnemonic: 'Searching hands probe field with stick.'
