  • Mood:

meaning: diagnose, examine

打診 == dashin == (noun that can take する to act as a verb) [medical] percussion, to sound someone out
検診 ==  kenshin == (noun) medical examination

Left radical is 'words/speak/state' (言). The right radical is a character only found in Chinese, meaning 'hair'. It is a combination of the 'hair' radical (the three lower strokes) and 'person' (人). In this character, it acts phonetically to express 'examine'. It is not clear what the meaning of 'words' is in this character. It has been applied particularly to medical examination for a very long time. Henshall suggests as a mnemonic: 'Person examined: diagnosis states too hairy.'
