Thirteen things that do not make sense. via Kottke

From New Scientist. Mostly physics/astrophysics stuff, but what's this about homeopathy working? Nope, don't believe it. Some other explanation will be found. A century of chemistry and physics by tens of thousands of scientists is not going to be overturned by homeopathy, any more than evolution is going to be overturned by ID. Not going to happen.

I love the 'Kuiper cliff', though.

NS, by the way, lately has been running a lot of articles, editorials and news items that boil down to: string theory isn't working out, and we're back to the sort of frazzled, frustrated intellectual environment in physics of a hundred years ago... just before quantum theory.

meaning: slanting, diagonal

斜視 == shashi == (noun) squint
傾斜 == keisha == (noun which can take する to act as a verb) inclination, slant, slope, bevel, list, dip

Right radical is 'measure/ladle' (斗). Right radical 'ample/excess' (余), used phonetically to express 'scoop out'. This character originally meant 'to scoop up a measure'; its current meaning is borrowed. Henshall suggests as a mnemonic: 'Diagonal gives amplest measure.'
