JI

meaning: Imperial seal

璽書 == jisho == (noun) document with the emperor's seal
神璽 == shinji == (noun) Sacred jewels (one of the Three Sacred Treasures), emperor's seal

Top radical is a Non-General Use character 爾, which has been borrowed to express 'you' and 'so'. It is used phonetically to express 'press'. The bottom character was originally 'earth' (土), meaning 'clay' in this context. Thus, the idea of a seal that was pressed into soft clay to leave an impression. The bottom radical has been replaced by 'jewel' (玉). Henshall suggests remembering the top radical by association with 'four crosses', and as a mnemonic: 'Jeweled imperial seal includes four crosses.'
