SAKU

meaning: bloom, blossom

遅咲き == osozaki == (noun) late flower, late blooming
咲き出す == sakidasu == (verb) to begin to bloom, to come out

Left radical is 'mouth/say' (口). Right radical was originally a mis-copying of a character meaning 'thistle'. It acts phonetically to express 'crease'. This character originally referred to smiling or laughing, which produce creases around the mouth. In Japanese this led to metaphorical meanings of plants opening their 'mouths' and smiling because they were in bloom, which has since eclipsed the original meaning. Henshall suggests taking the right radical as 'heaven' (天), and 'out of/forth' (入), and as a mnemonic: 'Heavenly flowers open mouths to blossom forth.'
