KON

tama, tamashii
meaning: soul, spirit

負けじ魂 == makejidamashii == (noun) unyielding spirit, indomitable spirit
商魂 == shoukon== (noun) commercial spirit, salesmanship

Right radical is 'ghost/demon' (鬼), here meaning 'spirit of a dead person'. Left radical is a Non-General Use character meaning 'say/speak', which acts phonetically to express 'swirl', and also its literal meaning of 'vapor'. This character originally meant something like 'the swirling vapors which are the ghost of a dead person'. Henshall suggests taking the left radical as 'two' (二) and 'nose', and as a mnemonic: 'Ghost with two noses is a funny spirit.'
