KEI

kuki
meaning: stalk, stem

球茎== kyuukei == (noun) bulb, onion
陰茎 == inkei==  (noun) penis

Top radical is 'plant'. The bottom  radical derives from a pictograph of the warp threads of a loom, and acts phonetically to express 'straight'. The straight part of a plant is the stalk/stem. Henshall suggests taking the bottom radical as 'hand' (the upper part) and 'earth' (土), and  a mnemonic: 'Hand plucks plant stem from the earth.'
