meaning: magnanimous, relax

寛厚 == kankou == (noun, adjective that takes な) kindness, largeheartedness
寛大 == kandai == (noun, adjective that takes な) tolerance, liberality, leniency

Somewhat obscure origin. The middle radical is 'grass/plant', and the lowest radical is 'see' (見). Henshall suggests taking the top radical as a 'cover', and as a mnemonic: 'See grass-covered spot and relax there.'
