His soul cursed like a sailor as he heard the snow falling faintly through the universe

Snow began falling about an hour ago and is now laying on the grass, not yet on the pavement. I work tonight, so my plan is to hit the sack early, rise early, and blow five to nine inches of predicted snow off the driveway so I can get to work. And however many inches of snow that weren't predicted.

ktnflag, I hate you. Grace, you too.

meaning: peace, moderation

平穏 == heion == (noun, adjective taking な) tranquil, calm, restful, peaceful, quiet
穏和 == onwa == (noun, adjective taking な ) gentle, mild, moderate

Left radical is 'rice plant'. Right radical is a character found only in in Chinese meaning 'care/compassion'; it was originally a pictograph of hands pressed over a heart. It acts phonetically to express 'soften'. This character originally referred to the process of 'softening' rice by pressing it. Its current meaning may be a metaphorical extension of this idea, or simply a borrowing. Henshall suggests as a mnemonic:  'Hands hold rice plant to heart as token of peace.'
