I'm in the process of revising one of my Clarion-written stories. I just read back over all the my fellow Clarionites' comments.

Some samples:

"I have no real suggestions, except to trunk it!"

"Dude. I don't know whether to be appalled or offended..."

"There are only so many times I want to read the word 'vulva' in one place."

"Interesting. Slightly pornographic."

"...probably will be a difficult sale."

The story's going to Analog.

Did you know that Kelly Link, Gavin Grant, Karen Joy Fowler, Ted Chiang, Christopher Rowe, Gwenda Bond (among others) have a group blog? I didn't. Learned it from Lit Haven, which has an LJ feed, lithaven, btw.

In my poll a few days ago about which film director's films you wanted life to resemble more, the modal choice was Miyazaki Hayao. I note that three (3) Miyazaki films are being released on DVD in the US for the first time today</a>: Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Porco Rosso, and The Cat Returns (which is a sequel to Whisper of the Heart, which, oddly, has not been released here).

Nausicaa was one of the first Japanese LD's I bought. Watched it with an English script from the Venice archive. (Remember the Venice archive?)

Mmmm, Nausicaa.

meaning: odd, B, 2nd, stylish

乙な味 == otsunaaji == strange/spicy taste
甲乙丙 == kouotsuhei == (noun) ABC, '1, 2, and 3'

Originally a pictograph of a double-bladed sword. Apparently because this was an unusual weapon, the character came to mean 'odd'. 'Stylish' may be loosely associated in meaning; 'B/2nd' is a borrowed meaning. Henshall suggests as a mnemonic:  'Odd double-bladed sword is B-grade style.'
