The Philadelphia Eagles have lost the Super Bowl. Somehow, I expect the world will get on pretty much as before.

Sourdough starter, Day 7: The elastic properties of the flour/water dough which is breeding this thing are rapidly being destroyed by the corruptive process, leaving a pale slime beneath a pool of dark liquid like swamp water. The instructions say I am to remove any floating masses of mold. I look, but there are none. I feel unneeded.

spate asks whether I intend to name it.

I've always fancied the name 'Nyarlathotep'.

Still, it lacks something. A certain frivolousness, a certain modernity. Perhaps: Nyarlathotep-a-go-go.

rec.arts.anime.misc discovered a couple of years ago that almost any name can be improved by adding "Neon Genesis" before it. So: Neon Genesis Nyarlathotep-a-go-go.

And I've always been intrigued by the name of a Faulkner character, Wallstreet Panic Snopes. How I would be loved to be named 'Wallstreet Panic'!

Neon Genesis Wallstreet Panic Nyarlathotep-a-go-go.

Yes. That's definitely it.

Left radical is one of the radical versions of 'hand'. Right radical is a Non-General Use character meaning 'draw to oneself'. It was originally a pictograph of two hands (top and bottom elements) and a knotted rope between them. Henshall suggests taking the middle elements of the right radical as a variant of hand (手), for four 'hand' radicals in the character, and as a mnemonic:  'Four hands provide help.'
