Goodbye, Macross

I'm giving up on Macross.

I bought the Animeigo DVD box set a couple of years ago when it was first published, put off watching it for a long time, but have been watching it recently. It's 36 episodes. I've watched 28, and I'm giving up. I'll probably put the thing up on eBay.

The first 27 episodes were okay. Kinda corny, but watchable. But the major conflict in the series ended in episode 27, and it looks like the creators had to kill nine more episodes, so we've got both a "cozy catastrophe" and a shounen harem story going on simultaneously, a bunch of non-credible drummed-up conflict, and I've completely lost interest.

I had wanted to see what Macross was about because it's a classic show with a huge fanbase. But maybe it's one of those shows that you had to fall in love with as a kid, or you'll never like it. Like Scooby Doo, which I also can't stand.

Been watching: Full Moon o Sagashite. robotazalea, you'll get mail soon. On deck: Noir.

meaning: source, origin

資源 == shigen == resources
源氏 == Genji == Minamoto clan in the Tale of the Genji

Left radical is the radical form of 'water'. Right radical is 'plain/origin' (原), used here in its original meaning of 'spring'. This character can mean 'water source', but is used more often in a broader sense. Henshall suggests as a mnemonic: 'Water source is in original spring on plain.'
