Origins are poorly understood. Henshall suggests taking left upper radical as 'sitting person', right upper radical as a 'bending person' (thus, two 'felled persons') the bottom left radical as 'arrow' (矢) and the bottom right radical as 'correct' (正), and as a mnemonic: 'Two people felled by one arrow? Doubt if correct.'
