SOKU
nori, notto(ru)
meaning: rule, model, standard

法則 == housoku == law
天則 == tensoku == natural law, rule of Heaven

Right radical is 'sword/cut'. Left radical is now 'shell/money' (貝), but originally was a pictograph of a kettle. This character meant 'cuts on a kettle', possibly indicating capacity (like the markings on a measuring cup), leading to its present day meanings. Henshall suggests as a mnemonic: 'Rules regarding the cutting of money.'
