The bottom radical is 'dish' (皿), the top radical was originally a variant of 'water'. Thus, dish full of water, leading to meanings such as 'overflowing', profit, and gain. Henshall suggests taking the top radical as a variant of 'eight' (八), and a 'table', and as a mnemonic: 'Make profit on eight sets of tableware.'
