HITSU
kanara(zu)
meaning: necessarily

必死の == hisshi no == desperate
必然の == hitsuzen no == inevitable

Originally a pictograph of a halberd (mmm, halberds) between two poles. How this came to mean 'necessarily' is not clear. Henshall suggests taking it as 'heart' (心) and a 'bent lance', and as a mnemonic: 'Lance through heart is necessarily bent.

The stroke order for this character seems to contradict the general rule of stroke order that 'strokes that cut through, come last'.
