Take 2 on the text editor decision.

TextPad is out. I'm going with NoteTab Pro, the US$19.95 version. Thanks for putting in a good word for it, joiseyguy. I explored it a bit more, and it certainly does have a lot of interesting, useful features, whether you're writing code or prose. Wish I'd found it earlier, but I've been using EditPad since, oh, 1995 or so, and never bothered to look around for anything better after that.

kokoro(miru), tame(su)
meaning: trial, test
試合 == sanpun == prose
試み == kokoromi == trial, test

Left radical is 'words' (言), right is 'form' (式), acting phonetically to mean 'observe'. This character originally meant 'observing which form of words is most effective', leading to meanings of 'test' in general. Henshall suggests as a mnemonic: 'Test forms of words.'
