KOKU
tsu(geru)
meaning: proclaim, inform
抗告 == koukoku == complaint, appeal, protest
原告 == genkoku == plaintiff, prosecutor, accusor

Formerly written using the characters for 'bull' (牛) and 'mouth' (口), leading to the folk etymology of this character originally meaning to roar like a bull. This is incorrect, but a useful mnemonic. (The character is actually derived from a variant of 'growing plant' which phonetically means to 'offer'.) Henshall suggests as a mnemonic:  'Proclaim with bull-like roar from mouth.'
