meaning: army, military
空軍 == kuugun == airforce
軍人 == gunjin == military man

Top radical is 'cover', bottom is 'vehicle' (車). Older forms show this was originally a pictograph of vehicles drawn into a circle (like covered wagons in Westerns), apparently typical of a military encampment. Henshall suggests as a mnemonic: 'Covered wagons encircle army camp.'
