meaning: row, line
列車 == ressha == railroad train
前列 == zenretsu == front row

Left radical is 'bare bone', and right radical is 'cut'. This character was originally a reference to butchery. Henshall says that because there is a set sequence in which an animal is butchered, the character came to mean 'sequence/order' (which it still means in Chinese), and then 'row/line', a related meaning to 'sequence'. Sounds suspiciously like a folk etymology to me, but what do I know? Henshall suggests as a mnemonic:  'Cut up bones lined in a row.'
