The giant rat of Gambia, a story for which the world is not yet prepared

So it looks like we're finally getting SARS under control? Well, meet monkeypox!

MONKEYpox? The hell? Spread through pet prairie dogs? Via a Gambian giant rat? C'mon, this isn't a news report, it's a SNL Weekend Update, from back when SNL was good.

Oh, and it 'only' has a mortality rate of up to 10%, no worse than SARS, as opposed to good 'ole smallpox, which has a mortality rate of up to 30%. I'm so relieved. And all you Canadians can start boycotting Wisconsin and Illinois now.

Oh, and don't eat the civet cats. Thanks.

meaning: beautiful
美人 == bijin == a beauty (female)
美学 == bigaku == aesthetics

Top radical is 'sheep' (羊), bottom is 'big' (大). This character originally indicated a well developed (and hence marketable and valuable) sheep. The concept of beauty as a large sheep became generalized to mean beauty in other senses. Henshall suggests as a mnemonic:  'Beautiful big sheep.'
