Left radical is 'water', right is 'twisting creature', being used phonetically to express 'bank'. Thus, 'water encircled by banks'. Henshall suggests as a mnemonic:  'Waters of pond contain twisting creatures.'

The Brazilian site with stroke order I usually use is down today, so try Josh's Chinese Lookup Thingy. Cut and past the character 池 into the entry box for stroke order. (Although this is aimed at Chinese, Japanese Kanji are a subset of Chinese characters, so it should be fine.)
