MU, BU
na(i), na(shi)
meaning: not, none, cease to be
無事 == buji (na) == safe
無くなる == nakunaru == vanish
Etymology obscure. Originally a pictograph of a dancer with tasseled sleeves, which was then borrowed for phonetic reasons. Henshall suggests taking the top radical as a sheaf of wheat, and the bottom radical as the radical form of 'fire', and as a mnemonic:  'Wheatsheaf burned, now none left.'
