Apparently, 'shindai' is rapidly being replaced by ベッド
Top radical is 'roof/building'. Left radical is '(sick)bed', and the rest of it is 'hands holding broom', indicating sweeping/cleansing. This character originally referred to temple outbuildings where the sick stayed, and later came to mean 'rest' in any sense. Henshall suggests taking the right/lower radical as 'hand', another 'hand', and 'cover', and as a mnemonic:  'Sleep in building, hands out of bed cover.'
