RYOU

misasagi

meaning: imperial tomb, mound

御陵 == goryou == (noun) imperial tomb
丘陵地帯 == kyouryouchitai == (noun) hill country, hilly area

'Somewhat obscure' etymology. Left radical is 'hill/mound'. Right radical originally meant 'high hill'. Bottom element is 'upturned foot'. Henshall suggests taking the top element in the right radical as 'ground' (土) and 'out of' (八), and as a mnemonic: 'Upturned foot sticks out of ground on mound of imperial tomb.'
