hori

meaning: moat, ditch, canal

堀り出し物 == horidashimono == (noun)  lucky find, bargain, good buy, treasure trove
釣り堀 == tsuribori == (noun) fishpond

Left radical is 'earth' (土). Right radical is 'crouch' (屈), which here acts phonetically to express 'dig'.  'Digging earth' relates to the creation of a ditch, canal or moat. At one time, this character mainly meant 'to dig'; today, it refers to the object of the digging. Note that in English, too, a project that results from digging can be referred to as a 'dig', i.e. a verb has become a noun. Henshall suggests as a mnemonic: 'Crouch in earthen moat.'
